The Essential Vanity Style Guide

The Essential Vanity Style Guide

Installing a new vanity can dramatically change the aesthetic of your bathroom. The key is to find a design that offers the functionality your household needs and the look that complements your space. This quick guide will help you create the aesthetic you desire.

There are two main types of vanities to consider:

Freestanding Vanities

Freestanding vanities offer a sturdy, easy-to-install storage solution. They mimic the look of standalone furniture and often do not need to be anchored to a wall, allowing greater versatility in storage options and design.

Floating Vanities

Floating vanities, on the other hand, are mounted directly to your wall for a clean, contemporary look that opens up the visual space of the entire bathroom. If you have a wall with sufficient support, wall-mounted vanities can be an excellent option for bathrooms of all sizes.

Whether you choose floating or freestanding, there's a design style that's right for every bathroom.

Traditional

Rooted in classic, ornate furniture designs, traditional design features well-accessorized rooms with dashes of pattern and color. It's a timeless style that takes cues from the 18th and 19th centuries, incorporating classic art, antiques, and history.

Contemporary

Contemporary design features softened and rounded lines, as opposed to the stark lines often seen in modern design. This style features solid colors, predominantly muted neutrals, or punches of bold color in furniture and accessories.

Modern

Modern design is characterized by a neutral color palette, polished surfaces, stark geometric shapes, and asymmetry. With roots in Scandinavian and German architecture and design, modern style concepts eliminate any unnecessary detail and focus on neutral materials and earthy colors.

Transitional

Transitional design fuses contemporary and traditional furniture, finishes, materials, and fabrics to recreate a balanced sophisticated style. It’s characterized by neutral colors, refined furnishings, simple lines, and natural elements.

Farmhouse

Farmhouse style is warm, cozy, relaxing, and full of charm and character that’s organized around a central notion of practicality. This rustic style typically features time-worn furniture, sturdy materials, light color palettes, and repurposed accessories. It’s is an inviting and comfortable style that balances old and new.
